Starshine Devon Sawa

Inside "Extreme Dating"

Starshine had a talk with the "Extreme Dating" producer, Mark Roberts and asked him a few questions about the movie and of Devon! Thanks to some Devon fans for some questions asked. And especially thanks to Lorena David, the director of the movie for answering the questions. Show your support for Devon, Mark and Lorena by going to see the movie when it comes out!

What makes "Extreme Dating" different than all the other movies out there?

Because it is a smart ensemble romantic comedy that treats the various issues of dating for both of the sexes and not just one.

Are you scheduling any appearances with the cast together on TV soon? If so, when?

Not right now but you can check in a couple months.

How did you choose Devon to play Daniel Roenick? (ie; audition, call him in)

Luckily I got word that he really liked the script and so we met. He dressed perfectly for the role and wore glasses which made him feel very “young professional”. So after that we made the offer for the role.

Why did you choose Devon to play Daniel Roenick?

Well, Devon had been at the top of my list for the character based on his amazing work in “Idle Hands” - he seemed very funny, natural and great at physical humor. He also had that “everyman” feel that I felt was very like Daniel Roenick.

Did you know who Devon Sawa was before this movie?

Definitely. I had seen “Idle Hands” which my friends wrote and I loved that film. I also saw “Final Destination” as I am a big horror fan and thought that it was a really great thriller. On top of that, I produced a film called “Poor White Trash” and so we had also looked at him for a role in that film but it didn’t work out at the time. I really glad it did this time, though.

Are there going to be any special DVD features? If so, what kind?

There will be outtakes and some deleted scenes as well as commentary. Maybe Devon will be able to do a commentary as well.

Will the movie be a wide release or limited when it comes out?

As we are still “Independent” we are just starting to show it to distributors, so we wouldn’t know for a little while.

What was it like working with Devon?

It was great! Devon has a lot of fun to him off camera. He is very friendly and he comes up with a lot of physical stuff to add in as well. We had a week of rehearsals and he was a very giving actor. He also was very good with the other actors and they all got along very well, especially Amanda Detmer as they knew each other from “Final Destination”.

What type of character is Daniel Roenick?

Daniel has a lot of mischief going on behind the mild-manner exterior. Although he has had very little experience with dating, he does have a lot of confidence in his personality and his abilities. What I liked the most about Daniel is though he balks at first to his friends crazy ideas, he always rethinks it and ends up being game for a lot.

To you, the director and to Devon; Do you think that "Extreme Dating" will be a big release?

Of course! I think it is really fun and open to many ages. We took a rough cut to Carson High School and the kids really loved it.

Any last words?

One of the best things about Devon is how cool and relaxed he is in front of the camera which translates into a fun, watchable and likable character. He’s a real natural.
