Q&A with "Final Destination" Stars

In a press briefing on March 1, Jason Johnson interviewed cast members of "Final Destination."Listed are the actor and his/her character and highlights of what each of the actors had to say about the movie.

Devon Sawa — Alex

Q: What was it like playing your character?

A: Alex is a character with a rainbow of emotions. It was like a roller coaster.

Q: Has this movie changed your perspective on death?

A: No. I always try to live day by day and don't worry about death's fate.

Ali Larter — Clear

Q: How did you get involved with this?

A: I'd been reading the chunks of scripts that come through and I read this one and I was just really attracted to the script. This one had a 17-year old character where she actually has some tragedy and things happen in her life and she evolves and finds her voice.

Q: What was it like filming the airplane scene?

A: Claustrophobic. It made me sick. It was like we were all cramped up. It was such a nightmare sitting on that plane. But it was fun seeing it in the movie. Watching it all put together, the special effects put it to it, the fire, the music, the editing — that was fun.

Kerr Smith — Carter

Q: Has (the movie) changed your opinion on death, accidents or planes?

A: I don't fly the same. I mean I've never had a problem in airplanes, traveling, whatnot, but now every time we hit a little turbulence, I'm white-knuckling it. It's brutal. It scared the hell out of me. It makes you think. It makes you live everyday of your life to the fullest.

Q: Do you believe in premonitions and have you ever had anything like that happen to you before?

A: No, the only thing is mild-case of deja vu, every couple of months. Deja vu is pretty scary.

Glen Morgan, producer and James Wong, director

Q: Was the fact that you choose a plane going to France only three years after the TWA Flight a decision or did it just go over somebody's head? Was it ever discussed?

A: (Morgan) No that was in the original treatment. Jim (Wong) and I researched it so that the specifics and stuff would not be like how the plane went down and everything so that we wouldn't do that.

(Wong) We didn't feel that we were being disrespectful to anyone.

Q: How did you come to this project?

A: (Wong) Well after meeting with New Line (Cinema), we talked about it and said, 'well if there wasn't a guy killing somebody, that would be more interesting.' So once we decided that, we told New Line we'd be interested in doing it, but only if death is just all around us and within all the things we do everyday.
