Devon Keeps His Hands Busy

A clueless teenager keeps his Idle Hands busy murdering people in this new horror-comedy.

After endless releases of horror/slasher/teen/comedy movies in recent years one would think that screenwriters in Hollywood are running out of new ideas, but as this Columbia Tristar picture proves, the slashing of good-looking teenagers is not over yet.

Seventeen-year-old Anton Tobias is a clueless, television-obsessed teenager who — distracted by TV and raiding the fridge — fails to notice his beheaded parents lying in a pool of blood on the morning of Halloween.

After stealing some pocket money he heads over to visit his equally underachieving friends, Pnub (Elden Henson) and Mick (Seth Green) and learns of a crazy killer terrorizing the town. Oh — on his visit he also finds the girl of his dreams, Molly, and falls in love with her.

Returning home, he discovers his dead parents. While Anton is being sick, his friends Mick and Pnub arrive. Together they deduce that Anton is the only possible murderer and it is then that Anton's right hand begins to show the first signs of mysterious evil possession...

Against his will his hand begins murdering people close to him, starting with his friends. From now on havoc wreaks and Hell's gates open wide to mercilessly swallow innocent teenage lives. Of course Mick and Pnub rise from the dead and there is a high school Halloween Dance that very evening...

The film comprises some of the finest names in Hollywood's Guild of up and coming attractive new actors and actresses. "It's an original story; it hasn't been done yet. It's funny, it's creative. I think this film is going to entertain people with that sort of terrifying humor," says teen idol Devon Sawa who stars as Anton. Sawa is a young actor from Canada who has worked alongside Anjelica Houston and Robert Duval on the award winning mini-series Lonesome Dove and played in movies like Little Giants and Casper before he was cast as Anton in Idle Hands.

Seth Green, also known as Oz in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, plays Anton's best friend Mick. The young actor has an impressive filmography including the part of Selby in recent movie Enemy of the State with Will Smith and Gene Hackman as well as playing Scott Evil in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. His TV credits include Cybill, The X-Files and Beverly Hills 90210.

Vivica A. Fox stars as the Druid priestess who is sent to track down Anton and stop his evil hand committing more unspeakable crimes. Asked what attracted her to her role in Idle Hands, she points out "the horror, the comedy, the special effects, the babes and the dudes." She is known from films Soul Food, Batman and Robin, Booty Call and Independence Day.

Idle Hands was directed by Rodman Flender who has been involved in a series of successful TV and movie projects which include the TV series Dawson Creek, Millennium, Chicago Hope, Dark Skies and Party of Five. His expertise in the mystery field should prove useful for a film of Idle Hands' scope. "I think what makes this film different is its wry comedic take on those great, serious, heavy handed films of the '70s and '80s like The Exorcist or The Omen," he exlains.

Idle Hands hosts some chilling special effects as well as outrageous black humor. With its attractive cast and cool looks, it's bound to be a success with a bloodthirsty young audience. It's release date has not been confirmed yet but it is expected to hit the theaters April 22 1999.
