"Around the Fire" > The Party

Cut to: The party. Simon walks down the steps wearing a nice rich suit. He shakes a couple of people's hands trying to act nice.

Bill (one Matt's friends): Another great sworey (?) Matthew.

Matt: Thank you.

Lauren: Aww...Timing is always Bill.

Simon walks over to them.

Matt: He's in Bermuda. Your mother is.

They all laugh. Matt points to Simon.

Matt: You recognize him?

Bill: Holy Cow—Simon. Simon, hey, come over here.

Bill and Simon go for a handshake.

Bill: How ya doin?

Simon: Good, how are you?

Bill (chuckles): Okay. So I understand you're off to boarding school tomorrow? And on to Princeton?

Simon: I'm getting into Princeton?

Matt: He's gonna get in. He's gonna get in.

Bill: Ah, you bet he will. Don't forget football's on the way.

Simon: Yes, Arrr!

Bill: Arrr!

They all smile, Matt, Lauren, Bill and Simon)

Matt: Hey, how about that merger, huh Bill?

Bill: Don't worry about the merger, it's fine.

Matt: I'm not worried about it. In fact, I'm thinking about putting more in.

Simon goes to reach some wine that a servant is carrying, released the handshake between him and Bill.

Matt (to Bill): And I think you should to. Cause we're gonna have a great fourth quarter.

Bill: Alright, Matthew I'm in. (nods his head)

Matt chuckles. And Bill walks away.

Lauren (under her nose): That went well.

Matt: Yeah.

Lauren and Matt make a toast between each other.

Matt: To us.

He kisses her. Simon who watched the whole thing, walks away.

Cut to: Simon in bed at rehab.

Joe wearing a black shirt is kneeling on the floor fixing his bed.

Joe: Hey, you gonna take a shower? Cause if you're gonna take a shower, hurry up because we got a lot of work to do.

Simon (looks up at Joe, then plops his head back down onto the pillow): What time is it?

Joe (gets up): I take that as a no.

Simon: Can you wake me up when breakfast comes?

Joe (walks toward the bathroom): You want the hopper, sink or shower?

Simon: I don't care, man. I'll do it later.

Joe walks over, drops the bucket on the floor next to Simon's bed which makes a loud noise to catch Simon's attention. Simon looks up.

Joe: Listen, here's the how its done around here alright? If you don't get up and do your job, we both don't eat breakfast.

Joe clears his throat and walks over more to the bathroom.

Simon smurkes and pulls the white sheet over his head.

Simon (about Joe): Fuckin' psycho.

Joe is cleaning some part of the bathroom and Simon is standing against the wall.

Simon: Everyday Joe?

Joe: Yup.

Cut to: Simon sitting on a chair by himself.

Cut to: Lauren and Matt standing by car.

Lauren: You should get over to him, Matt.

Matt (looks to Lauren): Yeah. I know.

Simon is seen standing in front of his mother's grave staring down at it. Simon bends down and picks (a rock?) something up from the ground and places it onto his real mother's gravestone.

Cut to: Matt and Simon. Simon's holding a box, looks to be a gift from Matt and Lauren.

Matt (with Lauren next to him, points to the box): Now, that's a power tie. Guaranteed success in business, if you wear it.

Simon looks down on the gift, smiles, nodding.

Simon (to Matt): I guess I'll wear it then, huh?

Matt (pointing to the gift): There's a little something extra in there too.

Simon picks up a 100 dollar bill.

Simon: Thanks Dad. Thank you.

Both Matt and Lauren smile.

Matt: Well, uh (looks at watch). We have a long drive back. We should be going, okay.

Lauren: Matt.

Matt: Yeah?

Lauren: Is there something we should be talking about?

Lauren walks past Matt and stands behind him.

Matt: Uh, there's probably a thousand things to talk about right now, but uh what's important is that uh we get on the road because we gotta get rested for work tomorrow and uh Simon gets up those steps so he can get ready for his work. Just um, buckle down and stay focused.

Simon shakes his head, looks up to Matt.

Simon: This place isn't gonna do me any good. I don't know anybody here.

Matt: Enough already. Okay? Alright?

Simon: Alright. Arrr!

Matt: Arrr!

Matt walks over to the drivers side of the car, away from Simon.

Lauren: I want you to check in with us as much as possible. We're only two hours away.

Matt: Lauren, gotta go.

Matt gives Simon a thumbs up and gets in the car.

Lauren (to Simon): Call us.

Lauren smiles to Simon and gets in the car.

Matt (yells from the car): Simon!
