"Around the Fire" > Simon Remembers

Cut to: Simon in a white room, all around. Simon's thinking about what happened that night with his mother.

Cut to: Simon's mother holding him when he was real young. She's hugging him.

Mother: Oh you're so cute! You can draw you can do anything, can't you? Awww.

Cut to: Young Simon walking down the hallway toward a door hearing groaning noises. Young Simon is sucking his thumb, he walks up to the door, opens it and walks in. The groaning noises get louder and louder.

Young Simon: Mommy. Where's Daddy?

Simon's mother and seen having sex with a complete stranger, essentially cheating on Matt.

Simon's mother sees Simon and gets a breath.

Simon: Where's Daddy?

Mother: Simon get out of here! Get out of here!

Cut to: Present day, Simon smashes the picture of his mom he was holding on his hand.

Back to: Matt and the mother fighting. Matt's pushing her out the door.

Matt: How could you do this! Get out of the house!

Mother: No!

Matt: Come on!

Mother: What about Simon??

Matt: I'll take care of Simon!

Cut to: Present day, Simon is smashing everything in his room — at rehab.

Back to: Matt throwing the mother out, he locks the door.

Cut to: Present day, Simon sad.

Cut to: Matt and Lauren sitting down facing each other where Kate is standing nearby getting herself something to drink.

Kate (to Matt, walking over and sitting down beside them): You know. It maybe the first time in his life Simon told the truth in there.

Matt: Well I don't know what he's been telling you here, but what he said in there was not the truth.

Kate: What, tell me what happened. I mean, did you two have an affair?

Matt: Absolutely not.

Lauren: No.

Kate: So why does Simon think that?

Matt: You know Simon's mother died and uh, it effected all of us.

Lauren: I think Matt has always blamed his self —

Matt: Lauren, please.

Matt gets up and walks over toward the window, looks out of it and looks back to Lauren. Kate gets up and walks away saying...

Kate: Be useful Matt.

Cut to: Matt opening up the door which lead to Simon's room in rehab. Everything is smashed, the bed, desk, lamp, everything and the picture of Simon's mother.

Cut to: Simon outside in the rain. It's dark, and pouring rain. Simon's crying. Simon's found right by his mother's grave. Which reads:

Ellen Harris

Feb. 14 1950

Mar. 11 1982

Beloved

Simon, who is kneeling on the ground by her grave, is crying tremendously from the loss of his mother and the truth he just found out.

Cut to: The daytime, Simon's sitting on the green bench he once did at his mother's funeral.

Cut to: Young Simon running away on the green grass.

Back to: Present day, Simon's thinking, staring out. Then he grabs his bright blue book bag and puts his hand on the spot where he carved his mother's name when he was a little boy.

Cut to: Young Simon with his father carving his mother's name into the bench.

Cut to: Matt and Lauren coming home, walking in the door. Matt shuts the door and Lauren walks into another room. Matt looks up at the stairs, takes his coat off, places it on the step railing.

Cut to: Matt looking at Young Simon after he thrown out his wife and Simon's real mother.

Back to: Present day, Matt was thinking about that, then he goes to go into another room, but he sees Simon sitting down on the sofa. Matt walks in the room. Simon stands up.

Matt: I uh didn't expect to see you here.

Simon: I didn't come here to fight. I'm not gonna stay long.

Matt: Well you can...if you want to.

Simon: Look I just wanted to tell you. Needless to say, I, I made a lot of mistakes Dad.

Matt: Me too.

Simon and Matt walk toward each other. They shake hands and give a big hug which lasts for more than two minutes or so it seems.
