Starshine Devon Sawa

Sneak Peak of "A Cool Dry Place"

In his new film, A Cool, Dry Place, Devon Sawa, who has never gotten into trouble, plays a troubled youth. It's quite a stretch for the blond-haired cutie and will prove what fans have known all along—that Devon's is one terrific actor!

"This is a coming of age and love story at the same time," Devon says. "I hope people will like it as much as I enjoyed acting in it."

Here's the storyline: Vince Vaughn, who shot to stardom with Swingers, plays Russell Durrell, a rising big-city lawyer. After his wife suddenly leaves him and their young son, he wrestles with the responsibilities of single fatherhood. Fired from his law firm while trying to juggle duties, he takes a lesser position in rural Kansas, where he finds romance with a local woman, played by Joey Lauren Adams. Devon plays Noah, her troubled brother.

"I had such fun on the set," Devon says, "Vince and Joey were just great fun to work with. They are real people, not Hollywood types."

Though set in small-town Kansas, the movie was shot in the picturesque town of Lindsay, Ontario, with additional scenes filmed on sound stages in downtown Toronto. Since Devon is a native Canadian, the location trek was like a trip back home.

"The setting was so beautiful and calm," Devon says, "it was an easy place to work. I hope Noah shows another side of me that moviegoers have never seen before. It's my most complex role to date. Before I started portraying Noah, I had to pick apart why he was so unhappy. I read the book the movie is based twice before I got to the set."

Devon's preparation and hard work paid off. He is excellent—even better than he was in Casper, Wild America and Now and Then—and that's saying something!

The film is scheduled to be in theaters either late in March or early in April. Watch for it!
