Devon Exposed!

It's a good thing that 16-year-old Devon Sawa isn't shy — especially since he has a skinny dipping scene in the upcoming feature film Now & Then! Tiger Beat talked to Devon about Now & Then and his very revealing new role, so read on!

In the new film Now & Then, everyone's favorite newcomer Devon Sawa plays 'Scott Wormer', the eldest of the notorious Wormer brothers whose mission during the summer of 1970 is to make life miserable for the girls. Naturally, the girls of the movie, played by Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Gaby Hoffmann and Ashleigh Aston Moore, don't take the pranks and teasing they get from the Wormers like wusses — nope, the girls give as good as they get. That means that summer will be an endless circle of pranks and revenge between the boys and the girls!

The girls gain revenge on Devon and his film brothers in a lot of ways — but the funniest is the scene where they accidentally spy the brothers skinny dipping in the lake. At first, the girls can't believe what they see — even Ashleigh's character, naive "Chrissy," can't help but take a peek! In the end, they win the ultimate revenge by stealing the boys' clothes and leading them dripping and frantic on a wild chase to regain their clothing and their pride!

Tiger Beat asked Devon about his role in Now & Then and about his big screen "exposure"!

TIGER BEAT: Over the past few months, with the home video release of Little Giants and the new movie Casper, we've seen a huge leap in your popularity. Have you noticed any difference in the way people treat you lately?

DEVON: Yeah, it's sort of weird and overwhelming. I live in Vancouver, and nobody really expects anybody to like, live in Vancouver, so I don't get approached a lot. No one's really recognized me, so that's cool. But it's weird seeing myself in magazines.

TB: In the film, Now & Then, the guys and the girls are always playing pranks on each other. Did anyone play any pranks off camera while you were filming the movie in Savannah, Georgia?

DEVON: I don't think there really were any pranks. The guys and the girls mostly had different scenes so we really didn't see each other a lot. When were shooting out scenes, they were back at the hotel or in school and when we weren't shooting we were back at the hotel. So not a lot of our pranks were pulled but we all did see a couple of movies together.

TB: Which ones?

DEVON: We saw Pulp Fiction, twice. I think that was about it. I love Pulp Fiction. I've seen it seven times all together.

TB: Was it a coincidence that you and Christina have done two movies together — Casper and Now & Then?

DEVON: I think so. I mean, it wasn't a planned thing. It was very much a coincidence. I did get to work with her a little on Casper, but I didn't get to know her a lot. So when I went to Now & Then, I knew her but we got a lot closer in Savannah. It was cool. It was really easy the second time doing the "big scene."

TB: Speaking of big scenes — what was it like doing the skinny dipping scene?

DEVON: It was okay. It wasn't as embarrassing as I thought it would be. When I first heard about it, I was really hesitant about it. I was really like — "Awww. I don't know if I want to do this." Then I just decided to do it. And when I did it, it really wasn't anything big. I mean, everybody's got it! It was really cool.

TB: Although in the movie the girls spy on the boys skinny dipping, I guess in real life they weren't really there.

DEVON: No, they weren't. It was a very closed set.

TB: This is the first movie you've done that's sort of a "girls' movie." Do you think Now & Then would appeal to boys too?

DEVON: I don't know if this would be appealing for boys. It's very appealing for girls because it's about four girls growing up in 1970. It's everyday girl problems, no matter what time period it is. I mean, you go through the same problems growing up then as you do now. I don't think you really dealt with the boy problems — except for the girls talking about them. So it wouldn't really relate to boys — although it's very good to watch — and it really related to the girls.

Catch Now & Then when it opens up at a theater near you on October 20, 1995!
